Wineries of the Sutter Buttes

Contributed by Steve Beckley

The sun was shining and the grass was green, so I decided it was time for a ride through my favorite mountain range and stop at the local wineries.  Nobody thinks of the Sutter Buttes as a destination for wine, but three wineries are trying to change that notion working together as the Wineries of the Sutter Buttes.

They are:

Munger Family Vineyards

You can find them on Facebook and their website is www.mungerfamilyvineyard.com. They are located just outside the town of Sutter.  Dan and Stacy Munger’s backyard serves as their tasting room.

Sicilia Vineyards

Located on the East Side of the Buttes on Nuestro Road, Dave Smith and Sandie Adams have five acres of grapes and produce  many Italian varietals that may not be immediately recognized by American wine drinkers. They can be found on Facebook and the website is www.siciliavineyards.com.

Cordi Winery

Reece and Teresa Cordi are the modern pioneers of the Sutter Buttes wine industry with their vines planted on the north side of the Buttes in 2009 and their first wines produced in 2013.  Info on the winery and wines can be found at www.cordiwinery.com and on Facebook.

It is a great way to spend a day and enjoy some wonderful wines.  I recommend you check their Facebook pages or websites to see when they are open.  But, even if they aren’t open, you would still have a great ride through the Buttes.
