Stories from the valley

The Future is in Our Sites

Contributed by Jim Morris

For something that has generated decades of discussion, Sites is a really quiet place.
This Colusa County location has long been earmarked as a promising site for future water storage, something our state desperately needs.

I recently visited Sites to take in this location that hopefully will significantly help our region and state meet future water needs. Engineers say the bowl-shape configuration would yield itself well for a reservoir. The project is gaining momentum and I, for one, am glad. Our state’s population has nearly doubled since the heyday of California water storage projects. The needs of our environment, cities and farms have suffered and will do so again with future years of drought. Having Sites added to the equation would significantly ease the pain.

Here’s a drone’s eye view of the project that provides more insight.

The Sacramento Valley is a unique and wonderful place. Getting Sites Reservoir built would help it stay that way for future generations.
